Cobalt (Tulsa, OK)
Meet Cobalt. He is a five-year-old male that is ready for his forever home. He is currently being fostered in the Tulsa area.
He is a very sweet and loves to be around his humans. He will be your shadow, always at your side especially if you have food, as he is very food motivated. Cobalt is good around other dogs and small animals as well as children. He loves to play with his foster brother Pony Boy.
He loves chew toys but they must be Nylabone, or other swallow safe toys. He has a history of swallowing other rope and soft toys as well as dishtowels. This has resulted in three surgeries over his life to remove obstructions. This has however improved over the last few months and as Cobalt has learned how to be a pet, he has had no destructive behavior in quite some time. He will however need to be in an environment that is as temptation free as you can keep it, this includes the kitchen counter as he is a counter surfer. Remotes and other soft plastic items are sometimes very appealing to him.
Cobalt also has some separation anxiety and we always crate him when we leave the house. Initially he escaped a wire metal crate by pulling it apart. We purchased a much more substantial crate and he has become more and more comfortable being in it for periods up to 5 hours. That being said Cobalt would do best in a home where someone is at home most of the time. Sometimes Cobalt has difficulty sleeping through the night but has been improving with this.
Cobalt walks well on a leash but will pull. We recommend a pinch collar for him, as he is very strong. Cobalt likes to go outside but only wants to stay out there if his humans are with him.
Cobalt spent some time as a stray (not sure how much) and has been adjusting to life as a pet in his four months with us. His future home will need to understand that this process will continue to be patient as he learns to be a pet. He really has amazing potential!
